Inter-religious News in the Diocese

INTER-RELIGIOUS NEWS IN THE DIOCESE.

IPSWICH area.

Mrs Loris Squirrell has continued to be present at Inter- Religious ( Inter Faith) meetings in Suffolk.

1 The Ageing Well conference organised by Suffolk County Council.

2  Inter-Religious Study groups.

3 The Impact of the "Credit Crunch" on the faith communities of Suffolk.

4 At the Social Concern Commission,our Diocesan Commission document "Spiritual care of the elderly" was used for one of the Suffolk County Council discussions on caring for the elderly of all faiths and cultures.

5 The Holocaust Memorial Day in Jan. at the Ipswich  Corn Exchange.

6 CCJ meetings and discussions arranged for the Spring include:

a)      Religious objects that are important to the individual.

b)      What is prayer? Led by a Christian. Led by a Jew.

c)      Morality and the media.

d)      How does a secular society arrive at morality?

e)      N.B. The A.G.M. of the Suffolk and North Essex Branch of the CCJ is on Thursday 23rd April 09 at the Colchester Synagogue.

Took part in the preparation for the service of the Women's World Day of Prayer.

 

There was a questionnaire circulated on the participation of women in parishes in Ecumenism and Inter -religious activities. The replies were then sent onto the World Union of Catholic Women.

Loris has completed her time of office with the National C.W.L. but will continue on the National Board of Catholic Women on the Ecumenical and Inter-Religious committee area:

 

PETERBOROUGH area:

In conjunction with Wisbech Inter Faith group ,there was a visit to a Hindu Temple in Peterborough on Sat.13th Dec 08.It was well attended, informative and enjoyable.

Sunday 17th May 09 at Peterborough Town Hall at 1pm there is the annual "Festival of Faiths & Food" on the theme of "The story of my Faith". The event is free and all are welcome. It is organised by the Peterborough Inter Faiths Council.
